The SIGN-HUB and CNRS Summer School addresses theoretical and experimental issues in sign language linguistics, sign language assessment and Deaf history.
The summer school is open to master students, graduate students and junior researchers who (i) already have familiarity with sign language research but are not trained in formal linguistics or (ii) are trained in formal linguistics but are not yet familiar with sign language linguistics.
The summer school will take place at the scenic setting of Villa del Grumello in Como from June 11-15, 2018.
The languages of the Summer School will be English and ASL/IS. Interpreting between ASL/IS and English will be provided.
This Summer School is the training school of the project “The Sign Hub: Preserving, Researching and Fostering the Linguistic, Historical and Cultural Heritage of European Deaf Signing Communities with an Integral Resource (2016-2020). For information about this project visit: www.sign-hub.eu.

Each class will meet daily (from Monday to Friday) for about two hours.
Call for applications
There is no tuition fee.
We expect about 15 bursaries to be available to cover the cost of lodging at Villa del Grumello facilities. Under equal conditions, priority will be given to young Deaf researchers.
The cost for lunch and coffee breaks, which will be served in Villa del Grumello, is 30 EURO daily. This sum is due also by students with bursaries.
A limited number of non-financially supported students will be admitted to the school as well (non-financially supported students do not pay tuition fee either).

The organization can help students without bursaries to make reservations, including in a nearby Youth Hostel. Participants are expected to arrive on June, 10 and are expected to leave on June, 16.
How to reach Villa del Grumello
Villa del Grumello is on the lake shore ad can be reached by foot from Como city center. Como is less than 30 km away from Milan airports.
