Applicants should have (i) a PhD degree in linguistics with relevant postdoctoral research experience in language acquisition, Chinese linguistics or sign linguistics; (ii) strong commitment to excellence in linguistic research on signed and spoken language development of deaf children; (iii) a solid publication record; and (iv) knowledge of Hong Kong sign language and deaf studies. The appointee will be based at the Centre for Sign Linguistics and Deaf Studies of the Department. Duties include (a) developing assessment tools or experiments to investigate the linguistic development of deaf and hearing children in Hong Kong; (b) implementing training in sign linguistics and language acquisition to students and junior researchers; and (c) assisting the Principal Investigator and Programme Manager in project operation.  Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for up to two years commencing May 2011, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
