Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Department of Linguistics at the University of Chicago is pleased to invite applications for a two-year Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship at the rank of Instructor starting in the fall of academic year 2014-15. We seek candidates who have a research focus on prosodic structure in the vocal or gestural modalities. The successful candidate will be a linguist, and someone who is engaged in the emerging field of Embodiment Research, which is the study of how our experiences as human beings make their way into abstract representations across a number of conceptual domains in language, the arts, memory and attention. It is especially desired that a candidate’s research program connect to the existing expertise in the Linguistics Department, as well as other areas of the humanities and humanistic social sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to teach two courses per year, one graduate and one undergraduate, on topics related to their research program.
Applicants must have received their PhD within five academic years previous to the year of the award, hence no earlier than 2009. Because the Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship is a residential program, the recipient must commit to relocating to the Chicago area for the two-year duration of the award. Persons holding tenure-track appointments are ineligible to apply.
Candidates are requested to submit a cover letter of application, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, research statement and teaching statement. All application materials must be uploaded to the Academic Career Opportunities Website (https://academiccareers.uchicago.edu/, posting 01969). No application materials will be accepted after January 6, 2014.
This position is contingent upon final budgetary approval.
Applications from ethnic minorities, veterans, women, and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged. The University of Chicago is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
