The Sign Language Research Laboratory and the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Haifa are accepting applications for two doctoral/postdoctoral researchers with an anticipated starting date of January 1, 2018. The positions are within two research projects, funded by the Israeli Science Foundation, headed by Prof. Irit Meir, Dr. Bracha Nir and Dr. Rama Novogrodsky. The first project focuses on sign language acquisition and bi-modal acquisition (Israeli Sign Language and Hebrew). The second project focuses on linguistic variation in Israeli Sign language, especially variation in register. The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. We seek exceptionally talented scholars in sign linguistics, with a focus on theoretical and/or experimental approaches.
QUALIFICATIONS
Completed requirements for M.A./Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Linguistics or a related field
Evidence of a strong research trajectory in the areas of sign language acquisition and/or bimodal bilingualism, and in discourse analysis
Competence in a sign language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Competence in Hebrew and/or Israeli Sign Language
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a 12 month position with possibility of renewal for an additional year. Post-doc scholarship is 30,000 US$. Doctoral students’ scholarship is 22,000 US$.
