The Deaf Studies Department at California State University, Northridge is currently advertising for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position for 2017-2018. To better acquaint you with the Deaf Studies Department at CSUN, here is some information about us:
- CSUN is located in the San Fernando Valley area of sunny Southern California (25 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles)
- We offer a BA degree program in Deaf Studies with six different concentration areas to choose from: ASL/English Interpreting, ASL and ASL Literature, Deaf Cultural Studies, Pre-Deaf Education, Deaf Community Services, Deaf Cultural Studies, and Special Option (individualized program).
- We currently have 474 declared majors, four full-time faculty including a Department Chair, eighteen adjunct faculty, and five staff members (office staff, interpreting staff and academic advisement staff).
- We are active in sponsoring a number of campus and community activities including Social Justice Conference, Deaf People of Color Art Exhibit, Distinguished Guest Speakers, ASL & Deaf Theatre Productions, mini-conferences, and student retreats.
Qualifications:
Earned Doctorate in Deaf Studies, Linguistics, American Sign Language (ASL), or closely related field of study. ABD candidates will be considered but must complete the doctorate by the time of appointment. General knowledge of ASL and the Deaf Studies field, which may include but is not limited to ASL teaching, cultural studies, Deaf education, and
interpreting.
Application Deadline:
Screening of candidates will begin on November 14, 2016. Priority will be given to applicants who submit all application materials by the screening deadline. However, the position will remain open until filled.
