Before joining ICREA again in 2009 at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, I was professor and chair of Romance Linguistics at the University of Amsterdam (2007-2008). Previously I had been ICREA research professor affiliated to the Department of General Linguistics of the University of Barcelona since 2002. In that period I set up a new research project on the formal study of sign languages, both with a focus on the morphosyntax and semantics of Catalan Sign Language (LSC) and on crosslinguistic and crossmodal research. In 2004 we organized TISLR 8 in Barcelona. I was the head of the research group GRIN (Gramàtica i interpretació de llengua de signes, FESOCA-UB), which published the first comprehensive grammatical description of LSC in sign and in three spoken languages. As a member of the Catalan Academy, I was part of the work group that drafted the text for the regulation of LSC which is now being discussed. I hope to be able to make a contribution to the new BA university degree in LSC interpreting at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
